Expanded Metal / Diamond Mesh:
Expanded Metal has been around for many years and is still widely used in thousands of applications. Invented in the late 1800's it was used in the construction of platforms in the working decks of ships, in elevated work areas in large factories and as fire escapes on most buildings. As the quality of steel improved so did the number of applications for expanded metal. It was then also used for reinforcing of concrete and plaster, decorative architectural formwork, screens, filters, security grilles, automotive applications, machine guards, fireproofing and ember shields. This is why it is still the most common material used for hearth screens and spark arrestors in fireplaces. 

Environmental Impacts:
Aluminium is a 100% recyclable material so it is eco friendly. It has excellent thermal transfer properties so it will expand and contract with the weather while always retaining its original shape. In the event of a bushfire, any embers landing on the mesh will have the heat transferred so quickly that the ember will go out in seconds. In its natural state, aluminium is reflective of both heat and sunlight so it will limit the hardening of dust accumulation in your gutters enabling the rain to wash away any silt build up. This will allow for cleaner water collection and reduced maintenance. The Aqualex panels will not only eliminate the risk of dead birds and vermin from entering your water collection system but will also prevent mosquitos and other insects from breeding in any small pools in the gutter. Product development took place over several years and included long term trials for exposure, fire testing, design simplification, durability and ease of installation.

Standard products were developed to suit most applications and systems developed to undertake customised projects where required. The purpose of this was to eliminate waste and streamline production to minimise any environmental impact and introduce a safe tried and tested DIY product onto the market.
